The Gua Teliman project is Mansa Carbon's first major project, based in Mali.

It empowers women to construct their own efficient cookstove from mud bricks, replacing the traditional, inefficient three-stone fire

Mud brick cookstoves are fit-for-purpose in remote Malian communities. They are easy to build, maintain and repair.

  • Less smoke = healthier environment for women to cook in

  • Less firewood = reduction in the alarming rate of deforestation

  • Less time poverty = women can add around 20 hours in their week by cooking more efficiently and collecting less firewood

  • Safer for children = less change of children suffering burns

"Gua Teliman" = "Fast Cookstove" in Bambara language

The three ingredients for success with this project are simple

  • Engagement - at all levels of a community but direct and regular interaction with the cookstove users i.e. the women

  • Training - all participants receive regular training to ensure the project's credits are of the highest integrity

  • Technology - digitisation allows for more efficient monitoring and data mining

Why purchase credits from this project?

  • Compelling, measurable co-benefits, including multiple SDG categories

  • Unique location - Mali is relatively devoid of carbon projects and at the front line of climate impact

  • Fastidious on-going monitoring of all areas despite remoteness
